Surf Report
Monday: Knee high with lucky bigger sets from the east at 7 sec with light southern winds.
Tuesday: Starting on the small side but an 8 sec NE swell begins to fill in late in the day with good winds so keep an eye on the cams.
Looking ahead: Models are calling for a good sized 8 sec N/NE swell for the rest of the work week with favorable winds so get ready and stay tuned!
Spanish House is a storied Melbourne Beach surf spot near the south end of the barrier island, the first beach access north of the Sebastian Inlet area past Bonsteel and Long Point parks. Named for the distinctive Spanish-style house that overlooks the break and long served as the landmark surfers steered by, it has been a popular spot since the early days of East Coast surfing. A shallow inside sandbar gives the waves some extra push, so it tends to break with a bit more punch and shape than the mellower spots up the coast.
Best Swell Direction: North-northeast swells work best, with a mix of groundswell and windswell, plus tropical and hurricane swells adding size in season.
Best Winds: West winds are offshore here and hold the faces clean.
Best Size: Works from waist-high on up, running small much of the year, with the bigger, punchier days arriving on solid north-northeast swells and in hurricane season.
Best Tide: Works at all stages of the tide, with the shallow inside bar giving it push.
Break: Sand-bottom bank with a shallow inside sandbar, offering both lefts and rights. That inside bar is what gives Spanish House its shape and its reputation for a little more power.
Crowds: A well-known spot that draws a dedicated crew and can get busy when it is working, though its out-of-the-way location keeps it quieter than the town beaches to the north.
Access: Parking at the Sebastian Inlet State Park Hammock Trail lot and cross the street to the beach.
Protected Refuge: This stretch runs through the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, a major sea turtle nesting area. Stay on the marked trail and off the dunes, and mind posted nesting-season closures and rules.
Facilities: The access is undeveloped, with just the dirt parking lot and trail. For restrooms and developed parking, use the nearby Brevard County parks such as Bonsteel Park or Long Point Park a short drive south.
Space Coast Bonus: Sitting well south of Cape Canaveral, it still offers a clear horizon for watching rocket launches, and the public beach does not close for them.
Operating Hours (Subject to change): Most parking areas outside of the main state park are 8am – Sunset though hours can change so check the official website for the latest. https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/sebastian-inlet-state-park/hours-fees
Fees: Surfing and beach access are free, and parking in the dirt lot is free.
