Satellite Beach RC’s Surf Report: Live Surf Cam, Conditions & Forecast
Surf Report
Wednesday: Shin to knee high with lucky bigger sets from the east at 7 sec with light onshore winds that pick up a notch for the afternoon.
Thursday: We stay shin high with light morning onshore winds that pick up fiord the afternoon.
Looking Ahead: We are staying small on Friday and then we have a bout of strong NE winds that fills in from the north as the day goes on pushing up some big chunky surf. Winds stay onshore in the 20 mph range for Sunday and Monday for continued big chunky surf. Onshore winds may ease for the mid week for a window of workable surf so stay tuned.
RC’s is one of Satellite Beach’s best-known surf spots, a coquina rock reef-influenced sand bar break that throws a notable left along with the surrounding beach-break peaks. The spot takes its name from a restaurant that once stood nearby on A1A, in keeping with the area’s habit of naming breaks after landmarks and is accessible through Gemini Beach Park. It draws a dedicated local crowd and can produce some of the more shapely waves on this stretch of the Space Coast.
Best Swell Direction: Northeast swells work best, with a mix of groundswell and windswell keeping it consistent, plus tropical and hurricane swells adding size in season.
Best Winds: West to southwest winds are offshore here and hold the faces clean.
Best Size: Works well from waist-high on up, running small much of the year, with the bigger, better days arriving on solid northeast swells and in hurricane season.
Best Tide: Often best around mid tide.
Break: A left-breaking reef combined with sand-bottom beach breaks, so it offers both a defined peak and shifting bank options nearby. The reef is what gives RC’s its shape and its reputation.
Crowds: A popular spot that draws a loyal local following and can get busy when the surf is up, especially on the main peak. Mind the lineup, and walk the beach to the neighboring banks for more room.
Reef and Rocks: Because the spot breaks over reef, there are harder, shallower sections. Watch your footing and take note of where the reef sits, particularly at lower tide.
Parking (Plan Ahead): There is no parking at Gemini park, it’s an access only and there are not a lot of good parking options within walking distance which is what gives RC’s it’s local’s spot reputation. Going to one of the nearby parks Like High tower or Pelican is a better bet for finding a spot. Satellite Beach uses a paid virtual parking pass system at its beach access lots, enforced daily. Residents can get a complimentary pass, while non-residents pay an annual rate or can register free for a single-location permit, set up online in advance. Arrange parking before you go and arrive early on good days.
Facilities: Access is through Satellite Beach’s public beach accesses, which range from basic street-end crossovers to fuller parks with restrooms and showers such as Hightower Beach Park and Pelican Beach Park. Use the marked dune crossovers only to protect the dunes.
Space Coast Bonus: Like the rest of this coast, it is a good vantage point for watching rocket launches from Cape Canaveral to the north, and the public beach does not close for them.
Operating Hours (Subject to change): The public beach parks are generally open during daylight hours, with paid parking enforced at the access lots. Confirm current hours and parking rules with the City of Satellite Beach at https://www.parksatellitebeach.org
