Navarre Beach Surf Report: Live Conditions & Forecast
Surf Report
Wednesday: Small to flat
Thursday Small to flat
Looking ahead: Small to flat for Friday. Strong offshore winds build for Saturday pushing everything away from us. Winds shift more to the East for Sunday kicking up some chunky cross shore wind swell.
Navarre Beach is a quiet, natural stretch of the Panhandle Gulf Coast on Santa Rosa Island in Santa Rosa County, tucked between undeveloped Gulf Islands National Seashore to the east and west. It is an exposed, sand-bottom Gulf beach break, with the long Navarre Beach Fishing Pier as the central landmark and a sandbar break working on either side of it. Like the rest of the Gulf, it is small and mellow most of the time, picking up only on winter fronts and tropical systems.
Best Swell Direction: South to southeast wind swell, generated by Gulf cold fronts and tropical or hurricane systems.
Best Winds: North to northwest winds are offshore here, the opposite of the Atlantic coast, since the Gulf lies to the south.
Best Size: Usually small and mushy, picking up mainly on winter swells and during hurricane season.
Best Tide: Works through the tide, with little tidal difference on the days it breaks.
Break: A sand-bottom Gulf beach break with a sandbar peak on each side of the pier, breaking from the inside. It is a soft, forgiving wave that favors fish and longboards when it is small.
Seasons: The best windows are winter cold fronts and the summer and fall hurricane season. Summer is typically small and often blown out, and surfable days are short-lived.
Crowds: The pier is rarely crowded, while the Beach Park peak draws a younger local crew. There is usually room to spread out.
Pier Hazards: Respect the pilings and keep a safe buffer. Surfing too close to a pier is a common cause of injury, and the structure can funnel current.
Protected Habitat: This is turtle-friendly, protected coastline, including the Navarre Beach Marine Park with its artificial reefs for snorkeling, so stay off the dunes and mind posted nesting-season rules.
Facilities: The Navarre Beach Fishing Pier (8579 Gulf Boulevard), one of the longest piers on the Gulf, has an attendant building, water spigots, and a pier store with rod rentals and bait. The surrounding Santa Rosa County beach park has restrooms, showers, and parking.
Operating Hours (Subject to change): The beach is generally open during daylight hours. The pier runs about 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM in winter and 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM in summer. Confirm current hours with Santa Rosa County.
Fees: Walking onto the pier is about $1, and fishing runs around $7 for adults with the license included, with weekly and annual passes available. Beach parking is generally free. Confirm current pricing at https://navarrebeachpier.com/info/
