Lake Worth Pier Surf Report: Live, Conditions & Forecast

Surf Report
afternoon report · 12:01 pmWednesday: Shin high surf with a longer-period north swell underneath, but the open beach is blown out today. Side-shore south winds start light around 9mph this morning but build to around 16mph by afternoon, making conditions textured but manageable early and chunky and disorganized later. Spots tucked in behind a jetty or pier on the south side will offer protection from the winds for cleaner conditions. Tides HT 6:00am, LT 12:09pm, HT 6:28pm.
Thursday: Tomorrow stays shin high with that same north groundswell. Light side-shore winds around 5mph in the morning make for cleaner early conditions, but expect things to get bumpier and more textured as winds build to around 13mph by afternoon. Again, wind-protected spots on the south side of structures will be the better call. Tides HT 6:52am, LT 1:02pm, HT 7:13pm.
Looking Ahead: Friday brings choppy, disorganized conditions all day with steady onshore winds around 14mph and no cleaner window. Saturday gets worse with strong side-shore winds around 17mph blowing it out completely, though the peak height climbs to around knee high. Sunday eases slightly to around knee high with moderate onshore winds around 12mph, bumpy but rideable throughout the day. Monday drops back to shin high with light onshore winds around 7mph, manageable texture. Tuesday if the forecast holds could see a bump back to around knee to thigh high, though the models are split on this one, with moderate onshore winds around 11mph keeping things bumpy but workable.
The Lake Worth Pier, officially the William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier, is one of the more dependable and popular surf spots in Palm Beach County, at Lake Worth Beach along South Ocean Boulevard. It is an exposed, sand-bottom beach and pier break that works on all tides and gives up lefts and rights over the sandbars the pier helps shape. A reliable, approachable wave most of the time, it is a favorite local check and tends to hold surf when other nearby spots go flat.
Best Swell Direction: Northeast swells work best, with winter storm groundswell and hurricane swells delivering the bigger, cleaner days.
Best Winds: West winds are offshore here and hold the faces clean.
Best Size: Usually small to moderate, picking up on solid northeast swells and winter fronts, with summer often small.
Best Tide: Works through all stages of the tide.
Break: Sand-bottom beach and pier break. The pier helps organize the sandbars on either side, so the standout peaks tend to set up near the structure, working both lefts and rights.
Crowds: A popular, consistent spot that gets busy when the surf is up, especially near the pier. Mind the lineup and give yourself room.
Pier Hazards: Respect the pilings and keep a safe buffer. Surfing too close to a pier is a common cause of injury, and the structure can funnel current.
Facilities: The beach park is well equipped, with restrooms, outdoor showers, a paved boardwalk, a kids’ play area, and lifeguards. Benny’s on the Beach, a popular and highly recommended restaurant, sits right out on the pier, and shops and dining are close by.
Operating Hours (Subject to change): The beach is generally open sunrise to sunset, with the beach park and pier area running roughly 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and the restaurant keeping longer hours. Confirm current hours with the City of Lake Worth Beach.
Fees: Parking is pay-by-the-hour through the ParkMobile app (around $3 per hour) in two beachfront lots that fill quickly in the busy winter season. Walking onto the pier and fishing from it are free.
