Jupiter Inlet Surf Report: Live, Conditions & Forecast

Surf Report

afternoon report · 12:03 pm

Wednesday: Knee high surf is on tap this afternoon, with a clean NNE groundswell at 7-8 seconds driving the size. Winds are light onshore around 8mph and holding steady all day, so conditions stay manageable despite a little texture on the face. The buoy is reading right in line with the forecast. Tides HT 6:29am, LT 12:21pm, HT 6:55pm.

Thursday: Tomorrow looks like it could offer better shape if the forecast holds, with the models split on the exact setup. Expect thigh high peaks in the morning window when side-shore winds are lightest around 3mph, then bumpier and more textured conditions by afternoon as the breeze builds to around 14mph. Tides HT 7:22am, LT 1:11pm, HT 7:41pm.

Looking Ahead: Friday stays bumpy with steady 13mph side-shore winds and thigh high sets, rideable but textured all day with no cleaner window. Saturday gets blown out. Strong 19mph side-shore winds wreck the open beach despite a bigger swell trying to push through, so the day reads chunky and disorganized. Sunday stays choppy on the back side of that wind pattern with 15mph side-shore gusts and thigh high sets. Things ease down early next week. Monday drops to shin to knee high with light winds favoring the morning before picking up by afternoon. Tuesday finishes the week with thigh high sets and moderate 10mph onshore winds that keep conditions bumpy but rideable throughout the day, though the models are split on Tuesday's exact track so keep expectations loose.

Jupiter Inlet is the scenic pass in northern Palm Beach County where the Loxahatchee River meets the Atlantic beneath the landmark Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. The surf is a beach and jetty break that sets up around the inlet jetties and the beach just to the south, favoring rights. It is a fickle, somewhat sheltered spot that needs the right swell to turn on, but this part of the coast catches more swell than areas farther south, and when it is working it can be a fun, uncrowded wave.

Best Swell Direction: Southeast and east swells work best here, with winter storm groundswell and hurricane swells delivering the bigger days.

Best Winds: West winds are offshore here and hold the faces clean.

Best Size: Usually small and inconsistent, picking up mainly on solid swell events and in hurricane season.

Best Tide: Works through the tide, varying with the sandbars around the jetty.

Break: A sand-bottom beach and jetty break that tends to favor right-handers. The jetty helps shape the sandbars, but the inlet also shelters the spot, so it can sit flat while other breaks are working.

Crowds: Rarely as crowded as the better-known breaks nearby, so even on a good day there is usually room.

Jetty and Inlet Currents: Respect the jetty rocks and the inlet. The pass moves a lot of water on the tides and can set up strong, pulling currents near the jetty, so know the conditions before paddling out and stay clear of the rocks.

Access and Parks: Jupiter Beach Park (1375 Jupiter Beach Road), a Palm Beach County park on the south side of the inlet, is the main ocean and surf access, with parking, restrooms, showers, picnic areas, and lifeguards. Dubois Park, also county-run on the inlet and Loxahatchee side, is a family favorite for its calm, shallow lagoon and lighthouse views, but it is a swimming and snorkeling spot rather than a surf break.

Lifeguards: Palm Beach County guards the designated swimming areas at Jupiter Beach Park and Dubois Park during posted daytime hours.

Operating Hours (Subject to change): Jupiter Beach Park is generally open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Dubois Park about 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Confirm current hours with Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation.

Fees: Parking at Jupiter Beach Park is generally free, while Dubois Park charges a paid daily parking fee (around $10).
